Kitty's Korner

BIG MEOWS!

2019 Prices

One of the comments Sarah (Kitty’s Purrfect Spa’s Office Manager) and I hear often is our prices are too expensive.

I would like to take a moment to explain why our prices are so much more than the prices you would find at a grooming salon.

To start with, I had my hair done today. Nothing too fancy, and $120 later… Last week I had my carpets cleaned, they would not come to my house if I could not guarantee at least $200 of work…Even though I have a very small yard with no grass, my gardeners minimum is $100 a month.

Life is expensive. Gas is expensive. Insurance is expensive. Any reputable business has got to price their services high enough to cover the expense it takes to operate a legal business in the state of California.

Besides the fact that as a business we have to cover our basic expenses, there are several other reasons for our price point being higher than a salon. First, we are an “in your home”, otherwise known as a house call business. Any time you have a service come into your home, you pay a premium. It is as simple as that. Consider the difference in price between a locksmith, car wash, mechanic or any other professional that travels to you versus one you drive to a shop to conduct business with. Anytime someone comes to you, you pay a premium price.

When I opened in June 2013, I CHOSE to be a house call business because I honestly believed (and still do) that it is the best way to serve the felines in Santa Clarita.

That said, working in the homes of my clients puts restrictions on Kitty’s Purrfect Spa that a salon based business does not have. Such things as only being able to service one feline at a time, having to bring all our equipment (60 pounds) into your home, setting up our equipment before each groom, cleaning up your home when we are finished grooming, driving to the next home and setting up all over again. These extra steps take the time that a salon based business would be using to groom another cat or two. Besides missing out on time to groom more cats, we are having extra physical demands placed on our bodies that salon groomers do not encounter. So yes, our prices are also higher because you are paying for the individualization of grooming one cat at a time, setting up and cleaning up the grooming environment.

Another reason our prices are higher than other establishments is that you are hiring a Certified Feline Master Groomer who has completed over 3,000 grooms, writes on the topic of cat grooming in publications that are distributed globally and teaches feline-exclusive grooming. So you are also paying for Deborah’s education, expertise, knowledge, and skill. This is especially important to your family if you have an elderly feline or a Kitty with medical issues.

As you can see, many things go into setting the prices at Kitty’s Purrfect Spa. Setting prices are never taken lightly and are always fair.

As of January 1, 2019, there will be a price increase in our services. These prices will be raised for everyone. The only exception is for the clients who are on prepayment or monthly payment programs that have not lapsed.

As always, I believe in running a legal and transparent business. Our current prices (that take effect January 1, 2019) can be found on our website: https://www.kittyspurrfectspa.com/bathandcomb.html

Please feel to email us if you have any questions! Remember, programs lock you in from price increases!

Did you know?

We take sanitation very seriously!

This is why we will not groom outside cats or in homes with fleas or fungal concerns.

In your home we use Lysol Wipes. Between clients and a the end of the day we use a vet and kennel strength disinfectant. At night we use ultra sonic and then an ultra violet disinfectant system to kill viruses and fungus.

When we suspect a virus or dermatological issues everything is treated with a hospital grade fogger then the above steps go into effect.

When we find fleas, we use a fogger then the above goes into effect.

Happy Second Birthday!

Kitty’s Purrfect Spa thriving on our second anniversary in business! With over 750 grooms behind us, this year we opened our Creative Cat Grooming and Kitten Sitting departments, attended many more continuing education opportunities and maintained our high level of customer care (both feline and human). During our third year of business we have many exciting things in the works! We hope you join us as the adventure is just beginning!

Kitty’s Purrfect Spa is proud to announce…

Our 700th Groom was completed on May 16, 2015!

We currently have 62 felines on a regular maintenance plan.

Is your feline one of the kitties that has a regular Spa Day with us?

Thank you for your continued support!

Here it is! Kitty’s Purrfect Spa’s third and most exciting announcement of the month!

(March 26, 2015)

Our Creative Department is now in full operation!

Pictured is Deborah Hansen, CFMG with Tatiana who has a dragonfly on her back. Tatiana was adopted by Deborah at 7 weeks of age. Tatiana is a blue and white domestic long hair. Since she came to live with Deborah 11 years ago, her life has been filled with intellectual stimulation, physical activity, excellent medical care and her every want has been met.

Tatiana’s groom was completed over 6 weeks. All products that were used on her are 100% safe on felines and approved by The National Cat Grooming Institute and The National Association of Professional Creative Groomers.

She LOVES her new look! How do we know? She has not changed her daily routine one bit! If anything, she has become more social, affectionate and loving! She even “allows” her standard poodles to admire her dragonfly. If a full coat creative groom is not for you, what about a temporary chalk tattoo? Or a heart in Kitty’s coat? More Education!
How much feline education can a feline exclusive cat groomer have? Never enough!  Deborah Hansen, CFMG earned the title of Certified Feline Master Groomer in March of 2013. Since then, she has continued to seek ways to increase her knowledge on the types of cats we keep as pets. She has attended countless hours of webinars, lectures and seminars in addition to her reading on the subject. On January 7, 2015, she was fortunate enough to have the private instruction of Danelle German, president and founder of the National Cat Groomers Institute, Inc! During this personalized instruction, Danelle German was able to assist Deborah Hansen in purrfecting her skills, followed by instruction in the area of creative cat grooming. With thanks to Danelle, Deborah’s feline grooming will be closer to show quality purrfection. While many cat owners may not notice the differences, a trained eye, after close examination will be able to pinpoint the slight adjustments made in her grooming.  Deborah is excited to bring this level of expertise to all her clients! Kitty’s Purrfect Spa will now be offering Creative Cat Grooming!  We are excited to be offering “temporary tattoos” and creative clipper work to our clients!  Please see our Creative Cat Grooming page for more information!

Happy 2015!

Pasadena Groom and Kennel Expo

Danelle German uses Cats Prepared by Kitty’s Purrfect Spa

Some highlights of Danelle German’s career include Showing Champion Cats along with Feline Exclusive Grooming from 1999-2005, Writing numerous books and DVDs, developing many feline specific products such as the Catty Shack Vac, Catatonic, Chubbs, President and Founder of the National Cat Grooming Institute in 2007, World Wide Lecturer and Teacher on Feline Exclusive Grooming, etc.

Last January, Kitty’s Purrfect Spa had the privilege of beginning to prepare felines for Danelle German to use during her Lectures in Pasadena, CA at the West Coast’s largest grooming conference.  While many kitties were considered, Mr. Purrkins and Princess Delilah were the finalists.  Kitty’s Purrfect Spa gave the same Bath and Brush to Mr. Purrkins and Princess Delilah as they give every cat during a Bath and Brush Visit!  The only exception, these kitties were on one week schedules and Mr. Purrkins nails were allowed to grow out.  Both kitties had warm water massages with a degresser product known as Chubbs, followed by a facial, ear cleaning and ending with drying and comb out.

Princess Delilah Demonstrated handling techniques and how to safely work with a feline client.  She also was a willing candidate to pose while Ms. German demonstrated a breed standard face trim for a Persian or Himilayian.

Mr. Purrkins demonstrated the application of soft paws and a sanitary clip (Brazilian).

At the conclusion of Ms. German’s day of lectures, she had time to interview Deborah Hansen, Certified Feline Master Groomer and Owner of Kitty’s Purrfect Spa.
