Terms, Conditions, and Policies
New client Meet and Greet appointments take half an hour.
First grooming appointment clients should leave three hours for Kitty’s Purrfect Spa to groom Kitty. Our goal is to work at Kitty’s pace while developing mutual trust and respect. Condition of the coat, temperament of the Kitty, and our work environment all work into the length of time our grooming session will last. Once the Kitty knows us, understands the process, and is in good coat condition the process will get down to about 40 minutes per visit.
Existing clients on a maintenance schedule will have Kitty’s Purrfect Spa in and out of their house in about 75 minutes for the first cat of average size. Add 45 minutes for each additional cat of average size.
Please reschedule if you can not allow our groomer to work at your cat’s pace. Rushing the grooming process, not only puts your cat’s safety at risk, but also increases the danger level for our groomer and decreases the quality of the final product.
We highly recommend you pre-book your next appointment. We are happy to schedule all of your appointments in advance for the current calendar year. Six to eight week maintenance appointments are advised for all clients. Maintenance appointments are completed in 45 to 90 minutes depending on your Kitty’s temperament and the services you request.
Appointments are Seen as a Contract For Work
Once an appointment is scheduled, Kitty’s Purrfect Spa views it as a contract for the work requested. As such, Kitty’s Purrfect Spa schedules time and employees to meet the job contracted for. Appointments canceled with less than 48 hours notice place a financial burden on Kitty’s Purrfect Spa, in turn a cancelation fee of $100 will be charged by invoice. Missed appointments will be billed by invoice for the full amount the appointment was scheduled for. If the cat is not ready to be handed to groomer when the groomer is set up, waiting and/or round up fees apply (see below). If the cat cannot be located, full payment for the scheduled service is due plus any waiting fees.
Kitty’s Purrfect Spa requires 48-hour notice of all cancellations. Cancellations made under 48 hours of your scheduled appointment will be charged a $100 cancellation fee per cat. An invoice will be emailed to you. More than two cancellations will require a prepaid, non-refundable deposit of $120 prior to scheduling any and all of your following appointment.
Program clients will be required to pay the $120 reservation fee. The fee will be refunded at your next appointment. Remember, your program/contract is for a specific number of weeks between grooms. If you do not keep to the agreed upon schedule, your program price will increase.
No Show Policy
One no-show will require a prepaid, non-refundable deposit of $120 in addition to the $100 no-show fee prior to scheduling the next appointment. An invoice will be emailed to you. No exceptions.
When Kitty is Not Ready when Kitty's Purrfect Spa is set up and Ready to Groom:
Kitty Round Up Fee $20+
Some cats hide when they know they’re about to be groomed! If we have to find your cat, we charge $20 plus an additional $20 for every 10 minutes we spend looking for or retrieving your cat.
Kitty Waiting Fee $20+
If Kitty is not waiting in a small room when Kitty’s Purrfect Spa arrives, a $20 waiting fee is charged. Kitty’s Purrfect Spa suggests placing Kitty in a small bathroom that will not be used for grooming half an hour before your appointment time.
We accept cash, checks and credit cards. Payment will be made per price menu/quoted and is due at the time of completion. Matting/Pelting/Skin in Pelt/Fecal charges will be quoted 10 minutes into shaving.
Return check fee of $50 will be charged.
Grooming in Your Home
Please be aware that bathrooms (our main work area in your home) with or without exhaust fans heat up quickly. For the safety of your Kitty and the groomer, make sure your house is cool enough at the time of your appointment that Kitty and groomer do not overheat. The ideal temperature is 70-75 degrees. Humidity increases an average of 22% during the grooming process. Grooming will stop at 80 degrees or 60% humidity, whichever comes first. If the work conditions cannot be improved in a timely manner, work will cease and payment will be due in full. Ideal humidity for a show quality groom is under 45%.
The litter box and all kitty litter on the floor needs to be removed from the work area before our arrival, to assure a clean and fresh smelling Kitty and a safe work environment for our groomer. Sometimes kitties will jump into the box during the grooming process. More importantly, your clean wet Kitty will be placed on the floor during the drying process and the litter will partly dissolve back onto the coat making it more difficult to present you with a “clean Kitty”.
Please show respect for our groomer by wiping down the base of the toilet and the floor to remove bacteria before our arrival.
It is also important your house is calm and quiet to prevent unexpected movements in your Kitty. If you need to have any deliveries, service providers or visitors in your house during your scheduled grooming time, we ask that you reschedule your appointment with Kitty’s Purrfect Spa. Kitty’s Purrfect Spa believes in a stress free groom, when unknown people are moving around the home, almost all kitties are on edge. Either curious to visit or eager to hide.
It is important the door to our work area opens and closes fully.
Kitty’s Purrfect Spa also requires a smoke-free environment for employees to groom in. Please refrain from smoking while Kitty’s Purrfect Spa is working.
Kitchen Sink to Bathe
We understand some families do not allow pets on the kitchen counters and find the thought of having their cat bathed in the kitchen sink repulsive. While we can empathize with you, there are a number of reasons why the Kitchen sink is the best option for cats to be bathed during house call grooming.
First, it is important water can be run without getting your feline wet. Most kitchen sinks have two sides. We need to be able to run the water to assure the temperature is not too hot for your cat. We also need your cat to be able to see and hear the water without getting wet to reduce the anxiety of your Kitty during the bathing process. Finally, if your Kitty gets upset, our groomer may need to drop the sprayer and regain control of your Kitty. If there is not a second side of the sink, there is no place for the water to go except on the feline, causing more distress to the Kitty and increasing the danger level for both the feline and groomer.
Second, using the kitchen sink almost always gives us access to a spray nozzle. Spray nozzles give the best results with the high-quality shampoos used to bathe your feline. Spray nozzles allow the groomer to penetrate the water to skin level allowing removal of all debris, dander, and grease the Kitty may have on the skin.
Please be sure to check your sink is draining properly before our arrival. Usually running the garbage disposal solves any issues. For obvious reasons, running the garbage disposal during the grooming process is not ideal.
Please do not run the dishwasher during your grooming appointment. The unexpected noise of a dishwasher can startle any Kitty. More importantly, dishwashers often change the temperature of the water coming out of the faucet, making the groom take longer and adding stress on Kitty. In Kitty’s opinion, the worst part of running the dishwasher during a Kitty Bubble Bath is the noise of water rushing under their feet. I am sure that must be a terrifying sound!
OK, but why not a shower or bath tub? First, the water cannot be controlled like it can in the kitchen sink resulting in a lower quality groom. Second, if Kitty panics, the only escape route is over the groomers head which increases the danger level of the groom. Finally, bathing in a shower or tub is very difficult on our groomer’s back.
After over 3,000 grooms, we know what works best. Bathing a cat in a shower or bathtub never ends well. It is Kitty’s Purrfect Spa’s policy to only bathe cats in a kitchen sink.
After the bathing process, Kitty’s Purrfect Spa uses Lysol wipes to wipe down the sink and counter. We are always happy to use a stronger cleaning product if the owner provides the product. If Kitty splashes water on a window, we will also wipe down the window with Windex wipes.
Kitty’s Purrfect Spa does not use loops or harnesses. We do however use an Air Muzzle when necessary. The Air Muzzle was developed by a veterinarian. It is lightweight, allows the cats to feel like they are “hiding”, while at the same time allowing cats the freedom to see and breathe.
Kitty’s Purrfect Spa makes the decision to use an Air Muzzle when the cat attempts to bite Kitty’s Purrfect Spa Employees. Kitty’s Purrfect Spa prefers NOT to scruff the cat during the groom. The Air Muzzle allows Kitty’s Purrfect Spa to work with your Kitty in the least restrictive method possible.
If the Owners will not allow the use of the Air Muzzle, the groom will stop and payment is due in full. It is in the Professional opinion of Feline Certified Master Groomers, National Cat Groomers Institute, and many vets that using an Air Muzzle is the safest and least stressful method to groom cats who have a tendency to bite. Please ask if you have any questions regarding the Air Muzzle.

Additionally, Kitty’s Purrfect Spa uses Bite Buster Sleeves and Gloves. If the Owners will not allow the use of Bite Buster products, the groom will stop and payment is due in full. It is in the Professional opinion of Kitty’s Purrfect Spa that Bite Buster products provided the safest work environment for the groomer. If the owner refuses the use of Bite Buster products, the groom will stop immediately, and payment in full will be due. Please ask if you have any questions.
Kitty’s Purrfect Spa also does not service areas with difficult parking, parking on hills or with multiple stairs to reach a residence. When parking is difficult, it affects our scheduling. We carry approximately 60 pounds of equipment. When our groomers are required to park some distance from the home we are servicing, in addition to walking up a steep hill and/or stairs, we cannot perform at our best, causing safety concerns for your Kitty and our employees. Effective September 2016 we will no longer be servicing The Terrace, The Vistas, The Promenade Apartments, The Village, Oak Creek, Sierra Village (Dockweiler and Valle Del Oro area) the “Condos off Rainbow Glen” blue homes with white trim off Golden Triangle and Rainbow Glen (Claudette, Rue and Flo) in addition to any other homes with difficult parking that require our employees to walk up hills and stairs.
The Cat(s) is/are fit and healthy and current on all vaccinations. Any grooming that takes place on an elderly cat or cat with health problems will be done at the owner’s risk. Grooming may expose pre-existing health and/or skin problems for which Kitty’s Purrfect Spa cannot be held liable.
We require an annual veterinarian visit. Proof may be in form of a receipt, a current medication bottle or vaccination record. Without proof of a veterinary visit in the last 12 months, Kitty’s Purrfect Spa will decline service. See Frequently Asked Questions for more details.
Dematting/detangling of matted hair may cause patchiness and hair loss. Consent to remove the matted hair is on this understanding. Shaving your cat(s) will dramatically change the feline’s appearance and the hair will be very close to the skin. This may expose pre-existing skin conditions for which Kitty’s Purrfect Spa is not responsible. Severe matting and/or pelting will result in an additional surcharge, based upon the severity of the problem and the time required to correct it. An exact quote cannot be given until 10 minutes into shaving. A fecal removal surcharge and/or biter surcharge may also apply. Accidental nicks and cuts may occur due to unexpected movement of the feline or skin condition.
Parasites and Fungus
Kitty’s Purrfect Spa will not return to homes with Parasites or Fungi out of respect for our other clients living environments. If a fungus is suspected, Kitty’s Purrfect Spa requires two negative cultures 30 days apart to consider grooming your feline. Keep in mind, we will not consider continuing to groom your feline in your home after ringworm has been diagnosed due to the fact that ringworm is a highly contagious fungus (the size of a dust molecule and can live in the environment for up to two years), plus the fact that our equipment recirculates air and debris not usually disturbed in the home.
Our Promise to You
Quality of Work
A Certified Feline Master Groomer will be grooming your cat. Please know, while we are capable of winning show quality grooms, we have to work with the current condition of your feline. Weight, hydration, temperament, pre-existing health conditions (known and unknown), the extent your feline tolerates handling by a human, amount of stress your feline tolerates, plus current skin and coat conditions in addition to the environmental factors (humidity and temperature) of the grooming area all place limitations on the final product.
If your Kitty’s groom cannot be completed due to the groomer’s concern regarding Kitty’s health or stress level, or if the groomer is not able to complete the groom due to injury or personal reasons, you will not be charged for the work not completed. A return appointment will be scheduled at clients convenience. However, if the groom is stopped by the client for any reason when the groomer feels confident the Kitty is safe, not in medical danger, not under unreasonable stress and the groomer is physically able to continue full payment is due and a follow up will not be scheduled. If the work environment is too hot, humid or there are other safety concerns with the environment, payment is due in full.
Your Privacy and Quality Assurance with Our Employees
Kitty’s Purrfect Spa will begin to hire employees. Your privacy is our number one priority. Each and every employee of Kitty’s Purrfect Spa will be required to sign a non-disclosure, social media policy, non-competition agreement and undergo a background check. No groom by Kitty’s Purrfect Spa will ever occur without the supervision of a Certified Feline Master Groomer. We strongly believe that education, high standards, and training are critical to running a successful feline-exclusive grooming business.
Authorization for Kitty’s Purrfect Spa to use images of your cat on this website and social media pages will be on file. All identifying factors will be removed from the photograph before used. You and your cat will never be identified by Kitty’s Purrfect Spa.
In the rare event of an emergency, Kitty’s Purrfect Spa will immediately begin first aid/CPR and inform you. Our next step is to transport you and your Kitty to the nearest qualified veterinary office. With admittance to the veterinary office, you accept all expenses and responsibility resulting from medical needs/conditions and treatments for such that resulted in health matters from before and/or after the actual groom. If you do not wish heroic measures to be taken, please notify Kitty’s Purrfect Spa before the start of your groom.
Please understand that despite Kitty’s Purrfect Spa’s commitment to the highest standard of pet care and supervision and to equipment maintenance and cleanliness; Accidental injury or illness may occur. Pet owners are solely responsible and liable for any and all actions of their pet during their groom with Kitty’s Purrfect Spa including but not limited to injury to a staff member or a member of the public.
Important Things to Know
Kitty’s Purrfect Spa will no longer accept cats that go outside as clients. This includes “Supervised Patio Kitties”. These kitties have a higher incident of injuries, parasites, and death. When Kitty’s Purrfect Spa started, we accepted outside kitties because we believed we could help them and educate their owners on a safer way of life. During each groom, we form a close bond with every kitty. We can no longer submit our employees to the heartbreak of what we believe are preventable occurrences that outside kitties are prone to.
If Kitty’s Purrfect Spa applies Soft Paws, and they remain on the feline after eight weeks, Kitty’s Purrfect Spa will not reapply Soft Paws to your feline. All felines must maintain proper nail care in order for Kitty’s Purrfect Spa to recommend and support the use of Soft Paws.
As a premium grooming service, Kitty’s Purrfect Spa understands you would go to any lengths for the health and well-being of your feline family member. We are a grooming service, not a rescue or a shelter. We can not help you find a new home for your feline or finance their medical or other needs. At this time, we are not referring to any organization who can help you during this time of trouble.
